HIGHWAYS AND ROAD SIGNS

  • Are there Highways and Road signs in the sky?

** Most of the kids, not only the kids even the adults may wonder how the pilots are able to reach their destination, where there are no highways and road signs in the sky and of course without any air collission.

** And in the recent past, there was news about the head on air collision in the sky, where people would have thought that like road highways there are no traffic jam in the sky. Inspite of having so many places for the airplanes to cross each other, how come the collision is occurring, what could be the basic operation of the pilots to operate airplanes in order to reach their destinations safely?

** The question may be easily answerable, but the real fact is that the sky is carefully mapped to avoid air plane collisions. “Unbelievable isn’t it!” Yes it is actually divided in to highways or airways, which are numbered and have speed limits.

** As a kind of road sign, radar signals from control towers at check points along the route are beamed in to the sky constantly to mark these airways. Just as a driver follows the signs along the road he is traveling.

** Similarly an aero plane pilot follows the radar signals picked up by the receivers in his plane.

NICE TO HEAR THIS NEWS ISN’T IT.
